When conducted properly, palatability testing is a useful scientific and marketing tool pet food manufacturers can rely on to make strategic decisions. However, the risk of generating false conclusions from palatability trials exists due to biases that can appear if protocols and panels are not properly controlled.
Symrise Pet Food's experts in palatability measurement have established several good practices to avoid measurement biases. They include the careful qualification of the animals, the perfect control of testing conditions (time, duration, ration...), but also the respect of animal well-being.
